About The Owner
Phil Hathcock

With over 27 years of experience in the stone business, Phil Hathcock’s work has achieved regional distinction. His specialty since 1996 has been the design and construction of Japanese style and natural gardens and landscapes. Phil and his father, Arch, began Blue Ridge Stone Company in 1975 which familiarized him with rock quarries throughout the eastern United States. He has a vast knowledge of rock formations, materials and uses.

After Arch’s death, Phil sold Blue Ridge Stone Company in order to pursue a career of artistry in the use of natural materials. His interests turned to landscaping with stone, water, wood and plants. Because of his love of nature and involvement in Japanese martial arts, Phil eventually began studying the art of building Japanese gardens. In an effort to use what nature has provided in its purest form, Phil specializes in using natural resources and recycling whenever possible.

Phil achieves a calm beauty and serenity in his gardens which is unique. To fully appreciate what can be accomplished by emulating nature, one needs to experience his work firsthand.
